The OC Theatre Department seeks to develop students to think, act, and communicate responsibly as Christians in all areas of life. We seek to develop in students a personal faith that will result in purposeful lives of leadership and service.

To this end, we will work to develop Christian theatre artists, scholars, and teachers equipped with the skills needed to produce the highest standard of live theatre. We will especially focus on developing talented teachers of theatre for university and secondary education, and on preparing students for graduate work in theatre or related communication fields. Our students all receive a communication degree with a theatre emphasis.  Students also minor in interrelated fields such as Mass Communication, Music Performance, and Youth Ministry.

Students are encouraged to put their skills to work by participating in the productions of the university as well as plays done by other students. The theatre season includes four plays plus a fully mounted musical every year. Some recent productions include: "Ordinary People," "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten," "Titanic," "Quilters," "Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp," and " Oklahoma!"   For these plays and musicals students design and make costumes, build scenery, design and manage the lighting and sound, publicize the plays and help operate the Box Office. Advanced students stage-manage productions and assist faculty, guest, and student directors. OC is small enough that students from all areas of the campus participate in the theatre productions giving theatre students contact with many ideas outside their own discipline.
