What OC Theatre graduates and current students have been doing lately...

Karen (Killion) Bender (1979 OC alumnus) was recently honored with three New York State Theatre Association Merit Awards. The first was for her direction of the musical "Jekyll and Hyde" and the second one for her acting role as Lucy Harris; the third for her work with the ensemble.

Anna Heffington acted in an original Off-Broadway show called "Discordant Duets" by Mark and Michelle Bruner at the Underground Theatre at GTT in New York City in the summer of 2002. Presented by New Jerusalem Productions, a three year old company whose mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through theatre and film. She also worked with the original costumer for the Broadway musical "Guys and Dolls" during 2002.

Ray Bailey won the lead role in an independent film by Chris Blum (co-writer of Blade II) to be entered in the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. Ray has also filmed a television pilot for the WB to be aired in January, 2003.

Katie Coldren handled the contract for the Broadway touring show of "Phantom of the Opera" to appear at the Oklahoma City Civic Center in Fall, 2002.

Barrett Huddleston won the Outstanding Graduate Research Award for all masters level students at Oklahoma State University, the first time anyone from the OSU theatre department has done so; He then won the Outstanding Graduate Student Award-masters or doctorate, also the first time a theatre student has done so. His masters' thesis on dramatic staging of works of C.S. Lewis must have been first rate. He was honored at the OSU commencement by wearing an orange robe (Spring, 2003). Barrett is now at work on his doctorate in theatre at the University of Minnesota.

Anna Wilcox appeared in the lead role in an original children's play at the Denver Theatre Center, in summer, 1999.

Anne Longfellow worked as a costumer with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in 2001.

Chad Anderson had the lead role in the musical "Oklahoma" at Discoveryland, USA, in summer, 2000.

Kari McFarland appeared as a principle performer in the musical theatre company at Busch Gardens Theme Park in Richmond, Virginia in 2000. Kari also worked as the Assistant Director and Stage Manager for "Oklahoma!" at Oklahoma Christian University in Fall, 2000. Kari is planning to begin a MFA in Theatre Pedagogy at Virginia Commonweath University in Fall, 2003.

Michael Coffman stage managed for the Sarasota Theatre, Sarasota, Florida, in 2001.

Scott Langdon was hired as a principle actor in the actor's equity Philadelphia Music Theatre production of "The Sound of Music," Fall, 2002.

Bonny Weeks finished a summer internship as a scene painter with California State University at Santa Rosa in 2001.

Julie Knox was accepted into the Hippodrome Theatre internship program in Gainsville, Florida, in Fall, 2002.

-Twelve OC students traveled on a summer study tour to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, 2002.

-Several OC theatre students have graduated summa cum laude and magna cum laude from Oklahoma Christian University within the last four years.

Carol Blankenship wrote an original play that has been produced by the Texas Community Theatre Association, Fall 2000.

Jim Elliot holds the position of Technical Director for the Amarillo Civic Opera, 2002.

Ashley Christofferson produces her own cable TV show in the southwest regional market, 1998 to the present. She also established a $1,000 scholarship for a worthy female OC Communication/Theatre major. 

Barrett Huddleston taught theatre courses at Oklahoma State University, Fall, 2002.

Tara Grotske won an internship to study screenwriting at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center, Fall, 2001.

Several OC theatre students have graduated summa cum laude and magna cum laude from Oklahoma Christian University within the last four years.

Jessica (Cervas) Kent has acted and directed for the Laredo Little Theatre in Laredo, Texas. She also did several commercials for the local NBC station. She now is teaching theatre in Laredo.

Lucas Ross won an internship to study screenwriting at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center, Fall, 2003.
