The Oklahoma Roughneck
The cry of “Oil!” was as motivating as the cry of “Gold!” had been.
Rich, black crude oil deep within the earth brought strong, determined people to Oklahoma. Oil field workers, their jobs filled with danger, worked 24 hours a day
to bring in the barrels of oil that changed America’s way of life forever. The disappointments of the dry hole were soon dispelled by hopes for the next gusher.
The roughneck could be rich or poor depending on the fortunes of the oil fields scattered across Oklahoma’s red landscape. The roughnecks built the oil
industry – and the history of Oklahoma – with “crude oil pumping through their veins.”| Sheet Music | |||
