Department of Music
Reviewed
as having one of the most splendid fine arts complexes in the state, Oklahoma Christian
University is committed to providing student musicians with the finest
possible academic and performance programs and facilities.
Whether you're performing in the Recital
Hall, which combines the architectural elegance of centuries past
with state-of-the-art acoustical design, participating in group instruction
in the digital MIDI piano lab, rehearsing in the privacy of the Kerr Music
Studios, or completing music research via your university-issued wireless
laptop, you'll note the institution's commitment to the art of music.
All of the department's acoustic pianos, for example, were designed by
Steinway & Sons, and Oklahoma Christian stands among the fewer than seventy
colleges and universities nationwide that bear the prestigious designation as an All-Steinway
School.
Oklahoma Christian's Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music Education
degrees (follow the links at left for "Degrees" or " Courses," or if you'd prefer to view the latest edition of our academic catalog, click here) are fully accredited by the
National
Association of Schools of Music, and for many years OC's music education
students have passed state teacher certification exams at a 100% rate.
Our music students have plentiful opportunities to participate in solo
performances in their area of emphasis--ensemble and group musical experiences
include band, choir, chamber music, orchestra, jazz, and musical theatre.
Regardless of your expected major or musical specialty, we invite you
to participate in our music activities.
Our faculty and staff are eager to meet you, so call (405) 425-5530 or e-mail us to schedule an appointment, so you can see for yourself what we have to offer. We'll set up class, rehearsal, and lesson observations during your visit, if you'd like. Please browse our site, or better yet, go ahead and start the admissions process, so you can embark upon your own musical adventure!
