History
Welcome to
History at OC!
The mark of the OC history department is excellence. The OC chapter of
Phi Alpha Theta, the national collegiate history honor society, has received the national honor for
best chapter in its division for nine consecutive years. Most importantly,
though, students graduating from the history program have an excellent
preparation for teaching and graduate programs in history and law.
Oklahoma Christian offers three major programs in history. The B.A. degree
in history is designed for students interested in continuing their education
at the graduate level. Entrance into graduate schools is very competitive,
but you will be well-prepared with the B.A. program.
The B.A. in history/pre-law combines work in history, political science, economics and literature to prepare the student for careers in public administration, civil service, foreign service, the diplomatic corps, international business, management training and various areas of business. It also provides background for graduate work in the areas studied and is an excellent preparation for law school.
The third program is a B.S.E.
in social studies, which is designed as preparation for those who plan
to obtain a certificate to teach social studies in grades 9-12. The degree
provides the knowledge and skills to achieve competency in the various
social studies, including history.
