Mission Statement

The College of Arts and Sciences prepares students to become knowledgeable and contributing citizens who glorify God through lives of faith, scholarship and service. Â To accomplish this mission, the university is committed to educating students from a foundation of Christian faith to think, act, and communicate, in a complex, demanding, and changing global community.

Who We Are

The largest and most diverse of the university's three colleges, the College of Arts and Sciences is the heart of the university's liberal arts general education. Many students will find their passion here, and all begin their college journey with general education offerings from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Liberal arts and sciences are the foundation for all higher education, playing an essential role in accomplishing the university’s mission. Through its majors and curricula, the college prepares students to think critically, qualitatively, quantitatively, culturally, scientifically, historically, ethically, and philosophically and to communicate effectively--all hallmarks of a well-educated citizenry.Â

Our faculty are committed to excellence in matters of faith, scholarship, teaching, mentoring and engagement. We are committed to lives of reason, reflection and life-long learning and seek to impart these qualities to our students.Â

The major disciplinary areas represented in the College are: Art and Design, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Communication, History and Political Science, Language and Literature, Music, Nursing, and Psychology and Family Studies. Our degrees prepare people for a variety of careers and admission to professional and graduate schools.
