Department of Chemistry and Physics

The Department of Chemistry & Physics offers majors in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Science Education. The Biochemistry degree has three tracks to choose from. These include options for preparation for graduate school, medical school or for a career in forensic science. The department provides classes in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, earth science, and astronomy.

  

All of the faculty in this department hold an earned doctorate. The aim of this department is to prepare each student for outstanding performance in graduate school, professional school or for immediate employment using the knowledge and skills they have learned in their undergraduate preparation.

Graduates of this department have gone to professional and graduate programs across the country. Our graduates have also been employed by a wide variety of industries and organizations, including the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Oklahoma State Health Department, ConocoPhillips, General Electric, and many others.

Faculty Profile

Mark Thompson Mark Thompson serves as an Assistant Professor of Physics and the Assistant Cross-Country coach. He is academically interested in science and religion, online education, and exercise physiology. Thompson enjoys running and cycling, and has run a mile in 4 minutes and 2 seconds!
