The Brass Ring Awards competition was started in 1985 with
85 entries from 6 Oklahoma universities. The initial purpose of
the show was to raise the quality of work being produced in
Oklahoma through the healthy venue of competition.
Of the 85 entries, over one-half of them were in the category of illustration.
In 2007 there were 14 universities, representing 495 entries from 8 states.
In 2000 a High School competition was introduced.
