Outreach & Opportunity

OC student helping in Recreation for the Handicapped Child class

More than 100 OC students, faculty and staff members annually devote their Spring Break or part of their summer to spreading the gospel all over the world. Mission teams went to 20 different countries in 2004: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Honduras, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Uganda, and Venezuela, plus Colorado, Florida and Tennessee in the United States. Outreach, the student missions group at Oklahoma Christian, spearheads many of these efforts.

OC students also reach out closer to home, partnering with Western Village Elementary over the past five years in a mentoring relationship with the "at-risk" school. Western Village students have seen their test scores rise dramatically over the last four years, almost doubling in some areas in the past year alone. 2007 marks the eighth-annual "Kite Day," where Western Village students make a field trip to Oklahoma Christian for a fun day of flying kites and eating lunch with OC students.

Oklahoma Christian also serves the community through its annual Bible Lectureship and by hosting distinguished guests and speakers - U.S. senator Don Nickles, Emmy winner and best-selling author Art Linkletter, national radio host Michael Medved, national safety expert Bob Stuber, and learning expert Dr. Mel Levine spoke at the university within the past year. President George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush, and Bob Hope are among other dignitaries to visit Oklahoma Christian through the years.
